Although The 1995 Donside Graphic Design and Print Awards will run directly from the disc with 4Mb of RAM allocated, it is recommended that you copy either the <<1995 Awards Ñ 8 bit colour >> or the <<1995 Awards Ñ 16 bit colour >> file to your desktop and allocate as much RAM as your system will comfortably allow. To do this, select the appropriate file and get info from the file menu (command-i), then change the preferred memory size allocation in the box indicated.
It is strongly recommended that you disable other programs and that you close other windows during play. Doing so may significantly improve the performance of the programme.
Disabling unnecessary Extensions and Control Panels (for example QuickDraw GX and PowerTalk) will also improve the amount of memory available to the application.
Virtual Memory should be switched off. You can do this via the Memory Control Panel.
We would recommend that you have Sound Manager 3.0 and Apple Multimedia Tuner installed. Please contact your local Apple dealer for details. If you do not have QuickTime installed on your system, you can install it from the CD.
As with all system extensions, you will have to restart your computer after installation.
Screen Savers
-------------
If your computer has a software screen saver enabled it might interrupt the programme. Please disable your screen saver software before using The 1995 Donside Graphic Design and Print Awards CD ROM.
Also, please disable any email system which may automatically interrupt the programme.
Two versions of the The Donside 1995 Design and Print Awards are included on the CD ROM. If your monitor is able to support thousands of colours or greater you can use either version, but if your monitor can only display 256 colours you MUST use the 8-bit (256 colour) version.
If you run the programme at a higher resolution than 640 x 480, the application will be centred within your display, surrounded by a black border.
If you choose to view the programme in 16-bit (thousands of colours) you will notice an improvement in image quality of the video items, but there will be a slight performance penalty.
You are advised not to change the resolution of your display or the number of colours while playing in the programme.
Audio
-----
There may be sound problems when running the programme on a Macintosh with Connectix RAMDoubler version 1.5.1 installed. This problem does not occur under version 1.5.2 which can be obtained from your local dealer or CompuServe (GO MACVENA) as a free upgrade to users of a previous version. Alternatively, you may restart your Macintosh without RAMDoubler installed.
Power Macintosh
---------------
The application is "Fat" which means that as well running normally on a 68000 series Macintosh, it will run in native mode on a Power Macintosh, exploiting the Power Macintosh's full capabilities.
The programme has been written with the idea of exploration in mind. Most aspects of navigation will be obvious, such as rollover and click functions, but there are one or two areas which deserve attention, such as the cherub which must be picked up to activate the movies in the Gala Evening section and the credits in the Awards Gallery, which expand on rollover and can be clicked on to magnify the text.
